IN keeping with its commitment to supporting community and educational development, St. Peter’s Bay recently reaffirmed its relationship with the neighbouring Alexandra School, with a financial donation towards some of the school’s initiatives.

One such initiative is the St. Peter’s Bay Technology Integration Award, which was won this year by Marcelle Catling, a senior teacher at the secondary school who, as part of her prize, will form a five-teacher contingent attending the annual conference of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, in New Orleans in March.

Jeff Broomes, principal of Alexandra School, thanked St. Peter’s Bay for its continued support and explained that the selection of the recipient of the award was based on how they integrated technology in their classes.

“Ms. Catling’s use of technology in her classes and throughout the various projects she undertakes was exemplary. As a participant in the Edutech programme, we encourage all to use the technology provided and she has taken full advantage of this, using it as a teaching and learning tool for students and parents alike,” Broomes said.

Catling expressed gratitude for winning the award saying: “I am happy to have won. It shows that hard work does not go unrecognized. For the last three years, I have used computer technology as part of my interaction with parents through PowerPoint presentations.

“I also used it to introduce the Career Project where students utilized various types of technology to highlight a career of their choice and display their projects at the form level meetings.”

Betty Cathrow, project manager of St. Peter’s Bay, made the presentation noting that the donation will also support the school’s ‘Read to Success’ and ‘CXC Summer School’ programmes.

“St. Peter’s Bay remains committed to playing its part in the community and the award along with several other planned projects are worthy contributions that we are sure will benefit the school and members of the community alike.”

St. Peter’s Bay SRL is currently developing the St. Peter’s Bay luxury beachfront condominium development in Road View, St. Peter which is due to be completed in the latter half of 2009.
