READING has become a fun endeavor for over 30 children from the northern community thanks to the St. Peter Reads to Success Programme, Alexandra School and St. Peter's Bay SRL,
which is lending its support to ensure that these children continue to benefit.
The programme is a free learning course which caters to children between the ages of seven and nine and was developed to help children reach a comfortable level of reading and writing.
The programme is offered at Alexandra school on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the school term.
McLester Burrowes, a teacher at Alexandra school and St Peter Reads to Success programme assistant, explained that the project was in its fourth year and has received overwhelming support
from parents within the immediate and neighbouring communities. "The programme was conceptualized by Janice Boxill and we asked teachers from surrounding primary schools to suggest students
who were having difficulties reading and writing to be a part of the programme, which was designed to help develop their skills."
Betty Cathrow of St. Peter's Bay SRL, while visiting the group recently, noted that the company is extremely pleased to support the initiative, which seeks to give the youth an educational boost.
"St. Peter's Bay SRL is pleased to support this programme. We are sure that all the children will benefit tremendously from the efforts of the caring individuals who take time out to come
each Saturday to assist them with expanding their reading and writing skills. We remain committed to supporting such activities and look forward to monitoring the improvements and successes of the
children who participate," Cathrow said.
St. Peter's Bay SRL is currently developing the St. Peter's Bay luxury beachfront condominium development in Road View, St. Peter which is due to be fully complete and ready for occupation in
the latter half of 2009.
